The Mechanical Laboratory Technician specializes primarily in mechanical and metallographic testing and results evaluation. He plays a key role in ensuring the safety, quality and reliability of repaired jet engine components. The job involves performing mechanical and metallographic tests and analyses to evaluate the microstructure, composition and mechanical properties of various coatings, materials and material composites, supporting repair processes and failure analysis studies. Using advanced testing techniques and equipment, the technician provides essential data for engineering decisions and ensures compliance with current industry and internal standards and regulations. His work directly contributes to the delivery of safe, high-quality and high-performance components that meet stringent flight safety requirements. The job is vital in maintaining the integrity and performance of components critical to flight safety. Job Description Main Tasks: __ Sample preparation: Perform precise cutting, #embedding, #grinding, #polishing, and etching for metallographic analysis of metal samples. Use appropriate handling and preparation techniques to preserve the integrity of samples. Metallographic tests: Performing microscopic examinations using analog and digital optical microscopes to evaluate the microstructure of materials. Identify and document characteristics such as grain size, phase distribution, inclusions, cracks, oxide content and defects. __ Mechanical testing support: Application of mechanical testing procedures, such as hardness testing, tensile testing, tear testing, as required. Recording and analyzing test results to determine material properties and compliance. Evaluation and reporting: Interpretation of metallographic and mechanical data, measurement results and preparation of detailed reports summarizing the results. Close cooperation with engineering, quality assurance, and production regarding the suitability of materials, components, and failure analysis. __ Equipment maintenance: Handling and regular autonomous maintenance of laboratory equipment such as microscopes, cutting machines, polishing machines, hardness testers. Assist and support the performance of regular calibration and troubleshooting to ensure equipment accuracy. Safety and compliance: Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment and flight safety. Ensuring compliance with industry standards, corporate policies, and regulatory requirements. __ Continuous development: Participate in process improvement initiatives to improve the efficiency and accuracy of inspections. Gaining up-to-date knowledge in mechanical and metallographic techniques and technologies, as well as other techniques related to the work of the laboratory. Other tasks: Supporting and performing tests in a chemical laboratory as needed (e.g. purity tests).
