About the Role As a Lead ABAP Cloud Developer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable, cloud-ready solutions on SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud and SAP BTP. You will shape the technical architecture for ABAP Cloud developments, drive the adoption of modern SAP technologies (RAP, OData, events, APIs), and ensure a clean-core, future-proof extension strategy. In this role, you will work closely with product owners, architects, and business stakeholders while leading and mentoring a team of developers. As part of our strategic partnership,  okadis   and SAP Fioneer co-develop cloud-ready banking solutions on SAP BTP, and we’re hiring a Lead ABAP Cloud Developer. Our okadis colleagues take over the selection process and also the onboarding. Lead an enthusiastic team, establish engineering standards, and mentor developers. Key Responsibilities Design & Architecture You define and own the technical architecture for ABAP Cloud solutions on SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud and SAP BTP (In-App & Side-by-Side extensions). You will design domain models, service interfaces and APIs using RAP, CDS, OData V2/V4 and RESTful services, aligned with clean-core principles. Implementation & Integration You will lead the development of cloud-native ABAP applications and extensions, including integration with SAP BTP services (e.g. Destination, Event Mesh, API Management, Identity services). Collaborate with frontend teams (SAP Fiori / SAP Build Apps / Work Zone) to design and implement end-to-end business solutions. Quality, Security & Operations You establish and enforce development standards, best practices and guidelines for ABAP Cloud (performance, security, testability, reusability). The set up and optimization of DevOps / CI/CD pipelines (e.g. gCTS, abapGit, automated testing, code quality checks) and support release and transport strategies in cloud landscapes is one of your core responsibilities. Leadership & Collaboration You provide technical leadership and coaching to ABAP / ABAP Cloud developers, conducting code reviews and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning. You work closely with product owners, solution architects, and business experts to translate functional requirements into robust technical designs and implementation plans. Innovation & Thought Leadership You stay up to date with the latest SAP S/4HANA, SAP BTP and ABAP Cloud innovations, evaluate new capabilities, and drive their adoption within the team. You will be contributing to the overall solution roadmap, proposing innovative approaches to modernization, cloud readiness and extensibility. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, a related field, and/or equivalent practical experience. Several years of hands-on experience in ABAP development, with at least 2–3 years in ABAP Cloud / RAP and SAP S/4HANA (preferably Public Cloud), ideally in the financial sector. Deep understanding of: ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP) Core Data Services (CDS) (views, annotations, authorizations) OData services and REST-based APIs Extension concepts in S/4HANA Public Cloud (In-App, Side-by-Side) and clean-core principles. Practical experience with SAP BTP (e.g. destinations, XSUAA/IAS, Event Mesh, API Management, Cloud Integration or Integration Suite). Solid understanding of software engineering practices (design patterns, unit testing, refactoring, secure coding, performance optimization). Experience with DevOps / CI/CD in SAP environments (e.g. gCTS, abapGit, automated pipelines, test automation). Proven track record in leading technical teams or acting as a technical lead, including mentoring and guiding other developers. Excellent communication skills in German and English, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Nice to Have Experience with SAP Build Apps, SAP Build Process Automation, SAP Work Zone or SAPUI5 / Fiori Elements. Exposure to event-driven architectures and asynchronous integration patterns on SAP BTP. Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA configuration and business processes in finance, loans, or public sector / development banking scenarios. Experience working in agile environments (Scrum / SAFe) and in international, distributed teams.
