Purpose of the Position The Shipping/Receiving Clerk is responsible to ensure packages are shipped on time and in accordance to sales order instructions so customers will receive products in the same condition that products were sent. This position is also responsible for receiving incoming materials and getting them to their respective departments.  Works under general supervision. Although the location of the position is in Sterling, VA, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.    Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to: Responsible for picking and packing all orders in a timely and efficient manner according to the printed sales order while utilizing hand-held scanning device. Knowledge of all shipping reports Knowledge of all distributor shipping requirements Verifies and keeps records on outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment: Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage. Assists in loading trucks, van or helping courier services in locating packages to ensure their correct destination. Verifies number of pieces being received Track and organize all incoming and outgoing inventory Receives purchase orders and ships sales orders using ERP system Maintains a safe and clean work area at all times.  In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for: Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures. Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments. The Company retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Physical Activities: Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times. The employee may lift or move objects up to 20 pounds. Employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, may be noisy at times. Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as but not limited to masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments. The required PPE and training allow for the safe handling and processing of chemicals like adhesives, lubricants and solvents, and safe operation of job-related equipment and tools.   Qualifications Experience: Minimum 2 years of warehouse experience with previous warehouse and/or inventory control experience is a plus Education: High School Diploma or equivalent or equivalent work experience Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Familiarity with a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel and ERP systems. Strong attention to detail Strong ability to work well in a group atmosphere and comply with high quality standards. Strong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing priorities Sufficient computer knowledge required. The estimated pay range for this role is $20.44 - $25.55 per hour D.O.E.
