Terms and Conditions apply** Located in downtown Richmond, VCU Health's COVA Care Clinic at Capital Square is a Primary Care & Family Medicine Clinic that services state employees and their covered spouses and children. Our clinic offers a wide range of preventive care, primary care and acute care services to adults and children ages two and older offering nurses the unique opportunity to serve a wide range of patients. This position is located in downtown Richmond and supports Commonwealth of VA employees at our COVA Care Clinic. The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association. AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent Experience REQUIRED: One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program No work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc. Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills Experience PREFERRED: Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant Previous experience in an academic health care environment Education/training REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent Education/training PREFERRED: Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Independent action(s) required: Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure. Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs. Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet clinic requirements and/or as needed.
