The Role System administrator role is specialist in installing, maintaining and upgrading internal computer hardware and software systems used for designing and developing products. Controls user access and passwords. Proposes and implements systems enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system. Monitors usage and performance.   For iSeries/as400, the job role involves a variety of responsibilities across different areas, including backup and recovery, capacity planning, disaster recovery, firmware maintenance, technical problem solving, MIMIX replication, hardware maintenance and support, hardware migration and upgrades, high availability, virtualization, patch management, system performance monitoring, software upgrades, security, network configuration, and system startup/shutdown1.   Key tasks include maintaining standard backup and restore procedures, providing capacity planning, executing disaster recovery tests, managing server firmware, troubleshooting technical issues, creating and managing MIMIX replication rules, participating in hardware maintenance and migration projects, ensuring high availability solutions, managing virtualization configurations, applying patches and upgrades, monitoring system performance, assisting with security compliance, configuring network interfaces, and performing system startup and shutdown procedures System Management : Administer and monitor iSeries systems to ensure they are operating efficiently and securely. Preventive Maintenance : Conduct regular maintenance to prevent failures and ensure service continuity. Problem Resolution : Identify and resolve technical issues that may arise in the systems, minimizing downtime. Configuration and Installation : Install and configure new software and hardware, as well as update existing systems. Backup and Recovery : Manage data backups and implement disaster recovery plans to protect important information. Security : Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems against external and internal threats. Documentation : Keep detailed records of maintenance, configuration, and problem resolution activities. Technical Support : Provide technical support to users, helping them resolve issues and use the systems effectively.
