IFF is looking for a high-performing Technology Scout to join our Strategic Alliances team in the Scent BU. The role is based in Shanghai, China (onsite role). In this role, you’ll help drive innovation by discovering and evaluating new technologies and building partnerships with startups, universities, research institutes, and companies - primarily in China, but also across the broader Asia-Pacific region. Where You’ll Make a Difference Market Intelligence Spot and assess emerging technologies and trends in the Scent and specialty ingredients sectors across China and Asia-Pacific. Stay on top of market drivers, regulatory changes, and technological shifts to inform our R&D strategy. External Engagement Build and maintain a strong network within the Chinese chemical and biotech ecosystem; government contacts and experience with AI/digital technologies are a plus. Develop and manage relationships with startups, universities, research institutes, and industry organizations to foster open innovation. Represent IFF at conferences, symposia, and exhibitions, bringing fresh ideas and opportunities into the company. Project Leadership Lead the evaluation, selection, and pilot implementation of innovative solutions, working closely with colleagues in R&D, Legal, Procurement, Operations, and Business Development. Oversee a portfolio of open innovation projects from concept to commercialization, ensuring alignment with business goals. Communication & Reporting Clearly communicate technology opportunities, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels. Track and report on key performance indicators related to technology scouting, partnerships, and innovation outcomes. Contribute to Scent R&D objectives by demonstrating initiative, delivering commitments, and emphasizing quality and timely execution. Travel up to 40% as necessary. What Makes You the Right Fit Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. 12-15 years of experience in the fragrance or specialty chemical industry, with a proven record of developing new products. Deep understanding of chemical and enzymatic transformation processes. Experience leading R&D or technical projects from start to finish. Skilled at collaborating with universities, startups, and both regional and multinational organizations. Proficient in open innovation and technology scouting, integrating external advancements into R&D pipelines. Strong relationship-building skills, able to work independently and self-motivate. Familiarity with intellectual property, including patent research and analysis. Effective communicator with technical fluency in Mandarin and English, comfortable engaging with academic, business, and leadership audiences. How Would You Stand Out?
