Job Title: Residence Life Coordinator     Department: Residence Life    Job Description: The Division of Student Life plays an integral role in Rhodes College’s vision and values, and every member supports the delivery of a transformative student experience. The College is seeking applications for the Residence Life Coordinator. The Residence Life Coordinator is responsible for supporting and enhancing the effectiveness of the Office of Residence Life, as well as participating in the development of a comprehensive residential experience for students. This position is a critical part of the Residence Life staff team, supervising student staff and providing direct care and support to students in a residential environment. The coordinator helps build a comprehensive and holistic residence hall program. The position includes weeklong on-call duty responsibilities, broad communication responsibilities, and regular contact with students in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment.    This full-time, 12-month position is required to live on Rhodes College’s campus in designated housing. The Residence Life Coordinator is required to serve in the on-call rotation, which includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.    Job Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, required. One (1) year of previous experience as a Resident Assistant, Community Advisor, or other housing/residence life leadership experience is required. Demonstrated leadership skills are required. Must be student-centered and accessible, with the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with students and their families, faculty, and staff. This position requires a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and must be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier.   Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate student support staff. Provide daily supervision for 10-15 resident assistants serving approximately 460-500 students and manage multiple residence hall buildings. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Meet biweekly with Resident Assistants or on an as-needed basis, and coordinate and facilitate weekly staff meetings with them. Assist in the opening and closing of the residence halls, assist with roommate assignments in the housing software system, issue and inventory residence hall keys, and track the maintenance of residence hall buildings. Regularly attend division, committee, and departmental staff meetings. Serve on various campus committees as needed. Facilitate resident relocations in the residence hall supervisory area. Collaborate with housekeeping and facilities to help maintain a living environment conducive to learning. Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Residence Life and Education. Advise, counsel, and seek to develop residents in alignment with the department’s mission, vision, and strategies to create and sustain a supportive residential educational environment. Assist, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistants on community development, program development, and program execution. Attend Resident Assistant programs and oversee the assessment of programs to determine effectiveness. Serve in the on-call rotation for crisis intervention and emergency assistance in coordination with Residence Life and Student Life on-call staff. Conduct prompt, equitable, and impartial investigations related to alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct and other College policies. Work collaboratively with Campus Safety, Community Standards, Counseling Center, Academic Learning & Resources, Physical Plant, Student Engagement, and other student life departments to provide exceptional student assistance. Advocate for and support students, especially in crisis and urgent situations, by hearing concerns and complaints, communicating effectively with family members or guardians, and creating a plan for coordinated care with appropriate campus partners. Assist with evacuating residential students and relocation as determined by Rhodes College. This includes inclement weather or other living conditions requiring college evacuation. Extensive knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and policies; Proven leadership in risk management; Knowledge and experience with College policies and legal issues in higher education. Ability to provide consultation and coach campus partners as needed. Ability to mediate and use problem-solving skills to resolve complex and sometimes sensitive issues. Ability and experience in investigating and responding to risk management and wellness concerns. Ability to provide perspective and utilize a proactive style of leadership that encourages teamwork and collaboration. Excellent written and communication skills; Full competence in computer software packages for the office environment. Ability to work with a culturally diverse population, promoting a campus climate of inclusion and participation by all students.   Residence Expectations & Community Standards Fully understand and interpret Rhodes College policies and procedures that include the Code of Conduct, Rhodes Housing policies, Title IX, and Title VI.  Conduct investigations and/or administrative hearings as deemed by the Office of Community Standards.    Physical Demands: A general office environment that requires constant sitting. The candidate will frequently perform computer work, use a keyboard, and engage in telecommunications. Manual dexterity will be required to perform keyboard and writing activities often. Visual acuity is commonly needed to read and review print and electronic documents. Reaching and pushing/pulling with a force of up to 10 lbs. will be performed. The candidate's mobility will be sufficient to move about the office and between buildings and the campus frequently. An office environment is highly interactive, confidential, fast-paced, and sometimes ambiguous. Will include evenings, weekends, and on-duty rotations.
