Position : R&D Manager, Connect Core Services, Industrial Platform  Previous experience: Software Management/Team Leading and/or good technical background with experience of leading small or large projects.   Location: Cambridge, UK – Hybrid Employment type: Full-time   The role Reporting to the Director, CONNECT Core Services, you will be a key member of our CONNECT core teams, leading the development of critical services for the CONNECT Platform. You will manage a highly skilled development team while remaining actively involved in the technical direction and delivery of the software, contributing hands-on across the development lifecycle. Success in this role requires up-to-date technical skills and a willingness to stay embedded in day-to-day engineering work while leading the team. You will manage up to 7 software developers and work closely with the Architecture Lead and teams across the Industrial Platform and AVEVA to deliver high-quality services. Key responsibilities Lead, mentor and develop a team of software engineers, with full line management responsibility including one-to-ones, goal setting, performance management and career development. Work closely with the Director, Architecture Lead and Portfolio teams to plan and deliver a well-defined backlog, contributing technical input to scope, estimates and priorities. Collaborate with the Architecture Lead to contribute to architectural discussions and ensure agreed designs are effectively implemented within the team. Actively contribute to software design, implementation, code reviews and technical decision-making. Remain closely engaged with the codebase to ensure technical decisions are informed by practical experience and current constraints. Provide day-to-day technical leadership through direct participation in design discussions, coding activities and code reviews. Drive agile delivery practices, including sprint planning, backlog refinement and retrospectives. Champion modern engineering practices across coding standards, testing, source control and CI/CD, acting as a hands-on role model for the team. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence and shared ownership of the code and services. Ideal experience Demonstrated experience balancing people management with active participation in software development and delivery Experience with RESTful APIs and microservice/service-oriented design Professional experience with C#/.NET (or similar) Solid understanding of agile methodologies and modern software engineering practices. Ability to communicate clearly about technical trade-offs, delivery progress and priorities. A collaborative leadership style, comfortable working closely with architecture, product and platform partners.
