The Assistant Director of the Vic ’63 and Bobbi Samuels ’63 Center for Community Partnerships and Civic Transformation (COMPACT) leads and implements programs that advance community-engaged pedagogy, research, and service at Brandeis University. Serving as a key bridge between the university and its community partners, the Assistant Director supports faculty, staff, and students in developing meaningful, reciprocal partnerships and translating academic work into real-world civic impact. Four primary responsibilities define the role: stewarding partnerships with community-based organizations; managing and assessing core COMPACT programs and grants; teaching and advising within the Community Engaged Scholars Program; and leading COMPACT’s communications and supervising student workers. The salary range for the position is $67,900-$77,000. Job Description Community Partnerships (30%) Develop and maintain strong relationships with local public and nonprofit leaders to ensure that civic engagement at Brandeis is responsive to community-identified needs. Support faculty and staff in identifying, cultivating, and sustaining partnerships with community-based and governmental organizations at the local, national, and international levels. Maintain up-to-date memoranda of understanding (MOUs) for all partnerships and serve as a primary point of contact for community and campus stakeholders. Programs and Grants (30%) Partner with the COMPACT Director to manage, assess, and evolve COMPACT programs and grants, including but not limited to the Samuels Scholars Program, Community-Engaged Pedagogy and Research Grants, the Community Health Internship Program, the Gittler Prize, and student grants from external organizations such as the Davis Projects for Peace and the Newman Civic Fellowship. Design and refine application and selection processes; develop clear and accessible materials describing program goals, processes, and procedures; and coordinate and support selection committees for programs, fellowships, and grants. Teaching and Advising (20%) Teach one 4-credit course per year within the Community Engaged Scholars Program (CESP), either CESP 10a Foundations in Community Engagement or CESP 189a Community Engagement Capstone: Connecting Theory and Practice. Serve as the Program Advisor for CESP by recruiting, advising, and mentoring students throughout their participation in the program. Communications and Supervision (20%) Lead and coordinate communications within COMPACT and with the broader Brandeis community and external partners. Supervise and mentor COMPACT’s student workers. This is an in-person position. Occasional evening and/or weekend responsibilities are required to support programming. Requirements: Education: B.A./B.S. required; M.A./M.S. preferred. Work Experience: 3–5 years of experience managing or coordinating programs, ideally in a public service organization and/or higher education. Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills required. Experience with community-engaged service, pedagogy, and/or research strongly preferred. Scope and Supervision: Establishes and maintains partnership agreements with approximately 50 community-based organizations and supervises approximately five student workers/interns. This is a dynamic and creative position that bridges Academic Affairs and Student Affairs in support of community engagement and civic transformation in Waltham, Greater Boston, and beyond. Pay Range Disclosure The University's pay ranges represent a good faith estimate of what Brandeis reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. The pay offered to a selected candidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience and education/training, internal peer equity, and applicable legal requirements. Equal Opportunity Statement Brandeis University is an equal opportunity employer which does not discriminate against any applicant or employee on the basis of race, color, ancestry, religious creed, gender identity and expression, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, genetic information, disability, caste, military or veteran status or any other category protected by law (also known as membership in a "protected class").
