Position Overview At Exact Sciences, our mission is to eradicate cancer through prevention, early detection, and guiding personalized treatment. The Associate Director of Software Engineering will drive the strategy, architecture, and delivery of our next-generation laboratory information systems (LIS).  This role demands a proven leader who can blend deep technical and clinical lab domain expertise with a people-first leadership style, fostering an empowered, product-driven engineering culture. You will partner closely with Product, Scientific, and other IT specializations to deliver secure, scalable, and flexible solutions that provide measurable business and patient value. Essential Duties include but are not limited to the following: Raise capabilities in the engineering team; including, but not limited to, developing coding, testing, and deployment protocols and best practices. Maintain strong relationships and transparency with key stakeholders (Lab, Sales, Support, Customers, and Affiliates). Partner with business and technology teams to prioritize roadmaps, requirements, balance business need with capacity, and technology constraints. Influence senior engineering and business leaders to drive increased capability though engineering processes and technologies.  Work with business stakeholders and engineering teams to design innovative solutions to complex challenges faced by the Company. Supervise staff; including, but not limited to, organize and prioritize work, write/conduct performance reviews, train/develop, and manage work performance. Communicate goals clearly to employees to ensure understanding and success in achieving them. Motivate and inspire employees to do their best work through coaching. Maintain morale and support employee engagement initiatives. Ability to apply good process management, negotiating, influencing, and problem resolution skills. Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Excellent project communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to execute project delivery to client satisfaction on time, on budget with quality. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate complex technical ideas in easy-to-understand business terms. Ability to accomplish results through others, particularly by establishing relationships, effective controls, and leading in a managed service environment. Ability to drive continuous improvements in organizational performance and efficiency, and career development for employees. Regular and reliable attendance. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day. Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day. Ability and means to travel between Exact Sciences locations. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a field related to the essential duties of the job; or High School Degree/General Education Diploma and 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of Bachelor’s degree. 10+ years of experience in Information Technology with increasing responsibility and advancing technical skills. 5+ years of experience leading or directing people and/or project teams.   Strong proficiency of object-oriented, service-oriented architecture, micro-service architecture, and programming principals.  Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation. Preferred Qualifications Deep expertise in building high-throughput, production clinical lab systems (LIS/LIMS) with a formal Quality Management System in mind. Demonstrated success managing and developing large technical teams, while also fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.  Hand-on experience with event-driven architectures, microservices, cloud engineering, and DevOps at enterprise scale. Expertise in Java, Spring/Spring Boot, Kafka, web technologies, Kubernetes, RDBMS, AWS, etc. Advanced proficiency in modern management platforms such as Git, Jira, LinearB, etc. Experience working in a regulated environment (SOX, HIPAA, CAP, CLIA, GCP, FDA, ISO-13485, and/or IEC-62304). Demonstrated understanding of the Clinical Lab environment. #LI-AJ1 Salary Range: San Diego, CA range: $184,800 - $277,200 Madison, WI range: $149,000 - $253,000   The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - CA - San Diego on a full-time basis and may differ by hiring location. In addition, this position is bonus eligible.
