Job Description Summary: The Assistant Director of Information Technology provides strategic and operational leadership for multiple IT teams supporting the RELLIS Campus. This role oversees end user support and research technology support. The Assistant Director ensures reliable, customer focused service delivery; guides process improvement and project execution; and partners with academic, research, and administrative stakeholders to design and align technology capabilities with user needs. This position supervises staff, manages resources and budget, and plays a key role in enabling the innovative research and educational mission of RELLIS. Responsibilities: - Establishes strategic direction for IT support and research-support services; develops long- and short-term goals, objectives, and service strategies aligned with campus priorities. - Directs and manages multiple IT teams, including end-user support, research technology support. - Plans, organizes, and oversees daily operations of IT services, including endpoint support, classroom and lab technologies, specialized research systems, and general IT infrastructure services. - Develops and implements evaluation methods to assess program effectiveness, service quality, and operational performance. - Implements, and enforces IT policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, TAMUS, and RELLIS. - Oversees IT maintenance, lifecycle management, and operational continuity, including equipment, software, and research-related computing assets. - Prepares and reviews budget recommendations, manages purchasing priorities, and oversees cost-effective planning for IT installations, operations, and equipment. - Oversees the preparation of management, operational, and productivity reports, ensuring accuracy and data-driven decision-making. - Leads IT personnel performing troubleshooting, repairs, upgrades, and complex support, ensuring high-quality technical service delivery. - Manages IT project teams and support staff, including project planning, execution oversight, system configuration documentation, equipment inventory, and resource logistics. - Provides consultation and architecture design support to faculty, staff, researchers, and students regarding software, research technology, and information systems; resolves escalated issues and improves service levels. - Conducts and participates in meetings with campus leadership, research partners, stakeholders, and IT staff to coordinate operations and initiatives. - Oversees training, mentoring, and professional development activities to grow the skills and capabilities of IT staff. Education and Experience: - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Six years of related Information Technology experience. Registration, Certifications, and Licenses: -Must be able to gain and maintain a DoD (Department of Defense) security clearance. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. - Knowledge of the maintenance and installation of computer and network equipment. - Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding. -Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
