Job Summary: West Texas A&M University, a member of The Texas A&M University System, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Creative Writing or English with a specialization in Creative Writing. This is a 9-month, tenure track position that reports to the Head of the Department of English, Philosophy, and Modern Languages. WTAMU is seeking an innovative and dynamic educator and creative writer to enhance a recognized teaching, writing, and creative writing minor. *Application deadline is March 31, 2026* Work Performed: Teach a minimum of 9 hours per long semester in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and/or screenwriting including core curriculum writing using face-to-face and/or online formats. Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Active participation in departmental, university, and community committees/activities. Participate in departmental recruiting efforts to grow the English program. Maintain an active research and publication practice. Necessary Qualifications: Ph.D. in Creative Writing or English with a specialization in Creative Writing. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service. Commitment to an interdisciplinary team approach to education and research. Leadership skills, effective interpersonal communication, self-motivation, and the ability to thrive in a student-centered environment are essential qualities expected. Preferred Qualifications: Preferred subfields considered include 18th century transatlantic literature, 18th century British literature, composition and rhetoric, and foreign language.
