Position Information The Research Technician I, under general supervision performs entry level, semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks. Responsibilities: Assist the Project leader in all aspects of field and greenhouse experiment establishment and maintenance; basic maintenance of field equipment; implementation, maintenance, and data collection and summarization. Assist with project scientific and administrative work. Operates farm equipment and machinery as needed to establish, install and maintain research plots/sites. Perform additional duties as directed by Project Leaders, including watering greenhouses on weekends and holidays. Work with and assist other personnel on interdisciplinary projects. Prepare, implement and establish research plots of grasses, legumes, winter-hardy hibiscus, and other agronomic crops as needed, and maintains integrity of plant/soil to accomplish project goals through desired plant production methods. Inspects fields and crops to determine requirements for maintaining desired plant growth. Supervises one wage employee and/or a student workers processing samples from research areas, and performing other tasks as instructed by Project Leader. Formulates, calibrates, applies and measures fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. Orders supplies and materials for specific procedures. Performs other job related duties as required. Ability to effectively communicate with faculty students and staff. Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years related experience. Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills. Ability to effectively use personal computer to communicate and provide reports of activities. Other Requirements: Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. Ability to exert heavy force. Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends. What You Need to Know Salary: Compensation for this position is commensurate based on the selected candidate’s qualifications.
