The Assistant Director for Counseling Services supports the Director of Student Counseling Services in the administration, coordination, and delivery of clinical services, crisis response, training, and outreach to the student population. This position provides operational leadership within Counseling Services and assists with the implementation and evaluation of mental health services and related policies and procedures in collaboration with campus partners including the Dean of Students Office, Residence Life, University Police, Athletics, and academic departments. The Assistant Director provides direct supervision and support to clinical staff, trainees, and student personnel and assists with coordinated responses to student mental health concerns across campus. Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). Position is located on Tarleton State’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas with normal work hours from Monday to Friday; from 8am to 5pm or as work requirements indicate. Occasional evenings/weekends required. Occasional travel required. Responsibilities 40% Administrative & Supervisory Provides clinical supervision for graduate interns and/or provisionally licensed staff in accordance with ethical guidelines and licensing regulations. Maintains current licensure and appropriate supervision documentation in compliance with LPC board requirements. Provides developmental and remedial support to supervisees and addresses clinical concerns in a timely manner. Assists with professional development and training opportunities for staff in accordance with licensing requirements. Oversees day-to-day operations of the Crisis Team, Outreach and Marketing Team, and Academic Training Lab, including coordination of schedules, training activities, and workflow. Provides consultation to interns and staff regarding cases of concern, including high-risk students, students in need of psychiatric evaluation, and behavioral concerns, escalating issues to the Director as appropriate. 30% Crisis Response, Outreach & Training Coordination Coordinates Counseling Services’ office-based crisis response, ensuring students in acute distress receive timely and appropriate support. Serves as a member of the CARE Team, contributing clinical perspective to coordinated campus responses to mental health and behavioral concerns. Provides consultation to students, faculty, and staff regarding mental health crisis response procedures. Assists with postvention planning and response following student loss or traumatic events under the direction of the Director. Oversees outreach, prevention, and marketing activities, including supervision of staff and interns delivering outreach programming and mental health awareness initiatives. Coordinates the Academic Training Lab, supporting training experiences for student workers, graduate assistants, and undergraduate- and graduate-level interns. Assists with assessment, documentation, and reporting related to crisis response, outreach, and training activities. 20% Direct Client Contact Provides individual and group counseling to students experiencing developmental, personal, or mental health concerns. Groups may include process-oriented, psychoeducational, and workshop-style formats. Maintains timely clinical documentation, case notes, and case management records. Participates in the after-hours crisis rotation to respond to urgent clinical situations and campus needs. 10% Liaison, Resource & Other Duties Serves as a liaison and mental health resource to students, campus departments, academic programs, and community agencies. Participates in campus committees and collaborative initiatives as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned, with final authority and approval retained by the Director of Student Counseling Services.   Minimum Requirements Required Education and Experience: Master’s degree in health education, social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Fully licensed in Texas as an LPC Six years of related experience Experience supervising and/or mentoring graduate interns and/or provisionally licensed counselors. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Ability to present information clearly and concisely. Preferred Experience: LPC-Supervisor designation Training and experience using solution-focused brief approaches and/or cognitive-behavioral approaches. Five years of counseling experience Three years of experience in higher education Training in and familiarity with dialectical behavior therapy Strong public speaking experience Experience running counseling groups Experience with Titanium software Compensation & Benefits Salary: Commensurate with experience Salary Range: The target base annual salary range is $59,370 up to $84,311 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
