PURPOSE The Assistant Director is a member of the Islander Housing leadership team and supports the planning and implementation of residence life goals and strategies. This position provides leadership and direction for residential communities through the supervision of assigned professional live-in staff. The Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing the student conduct process, case management, and coordinating Care and Assistance efforts within Islander Housing. This role ensures concerns related to behavior, policy violations, and student well-being are addressed in a fair, timely, and supportive manner. The Assistant Director works closely with campus partners to support students through challenging situations while maintaining accountability and community standards. The residential experience is designed to support student safety, accountability, and well-being. As a live-in staff member, the Assistant Director engages regularly with students in a variety of settings and plays a key role in responding to conduct concerns, care referrals, and crisis situations. The Assistant Director works closely with the Associate Director of Residence Life on assessment and evaluation efforts, Move-In processes and programs, and participates in an on-call rotation across two residential properties. This position serves in an on-call rotation and must be able to respond to emergency and crisis situations, including support during hurricane and tropical storm preparation. DESCRIPTION Functional Area 1: Administrative  Percent Effort: 50% Oversees the student conduct process, case management, and coordinates Care and Assistance efforts for Islander Housing, ensuring behavioral concerns, policy violations, and student well-being needs are addressed promptly and fairly, in collaboration with campus partners, to uphold community standards. Serves on I-CARE team Supervise and train professional live-in Residence Life Coordinators, in collaboration with the Associate Director. Participate in strategic planning based on assessment data and departmental goals. Develop reports, surveys, and analyses as requested by the Associate Director. Assist with operational budgets and provide input for departmental budget planning. Maintain an area calendar aligned with the official University calendar. Support Resident Assistant recruitment and selection in collaboration with the Associate Director, ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal guidelines. Enforce the Student Housing Contract, Resident Handbook, and applicable laws; investigate incidents and resolve or refer cases for adjudication as appropriate. Attend staff meetings and other required meetings. Support move-in planning, hall openings and closings, and break and holiday operations. Assist with departmental and divisional assessment initiatives. Functional Area 2: Support Percent Effort: 30% Assist with planning and coordinating operational and procedural matters to meet department goals. Serve as a Mandatory Reporter (Campus Security Authority) under the Clery Act. Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours response. Collaborate with University Police, Counseling Services, and other campus partners in response to residential incidents. Demonstrate care, compassion, and follow-through when supporting student mental health and roommate-related concerns. Serve on departmental and campus committees as assigned. Functional Area 3: Program Management Percent Effort: 20% Lead departmental assessment efforts and prepare monthly, semester, and annual reports. Monitor compliance with unit, departmental, University, and government policies and procedures. Create opportunities for student leadership recognition and collaborate with campus partners to support leadership development, in coordination with the Associate Director. QUALIFICATIONS  Bachelor's degree in applicable field.  ​Six (6) years of related experience.  Additional education may be used as a substitute for the minimum education/experience requirement:  Master’s degree in applicable field with four (4) years of related experience.  Doctoral degree in applicable field with two (2) years of related experience.  Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.  Strong verbal and written communication and written skills. Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications.  Be able to work late evening hours, handle crisis that may arise.  Ability to work on an on-call schedule and travel between campus locations on short notice.  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  Previous experience working at a college or university.  Previous experience working in university or commercial housing management.  Previous supervision, advising or leadership experience.  SALARY: Up to $53,500/annually, approximately Up to $4,458.34/monthly OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  This is a 12-month, live-in position. The Assistant Director is required to live in an apartment on campus. The apartments are furnished and include utilities and wireless internet.  Partner and pet policies are available upon request.  Must be able to navigate a flexible schedule due to night and weekend duties as needed.  In the event of a weather‑related emergency, the Assistant Director will assist with departmental and campus evacuation procedures and evacuate alongside residents to ensure their safety.
