We strive for patient-centered care and comfort, and we are committed to serving the community and treating our patients as family.    In the Float Pool, you will work with diverse populations of patients in   numerous   units, departments and/or locations while learning from many of our best caregivers .   As a P atient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA)   on the team, you will perform various tasks, ensuring patients receive frequent attention and observation as needed. This is a hands-on role that requires a present,   attentive,   and patient caregiver who is willing to learn new medical technologies and thrive in a fast-paced environment. On this team, you will gain a wide variety of skills you can use in advanced positions or other departments.     A caregiver in this position works   night s from 7:00 P M –   7 :30 A M ,   including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.     A caregiver who excels in this role will:    Prepare units, patient   rooms   and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients,   transfer s   or emergencies.   Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.    Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry,   weight   and height.   Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck’s traction   and removing urinary Foley Catheters.   Assist   with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/ utilizing   special   equipment   and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.   Assist   and   accompany   patients during admission,   transfer   and discharge.   Perform hourly safety rounds,   anticipate   patient   needs   and respond to patient call lights promptly.   Collect, properly   label   and transport specimens to   proper   area.   Document patient care in the electronic medical record.    Assist   in keeping patient rooms in order, report equipment that is out of order, clean equipment and inventory and distribute unit linen and supplies.   Complete ongoing competency requirements, education   programs   and mandatory training to   maintain   certification and/or licensure.      Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:    High   S chool   D iploma or GED   Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA)   or American Red Cross   upon hire   or   within   new hire period   Prior job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills   Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered     Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:    State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)    One year of recent acute care experi ence     Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required                         The policy of Cleveland Clinic Health System and its system hospitals (Cleveland Clinic Health System) is to provide equal opportunity to all of our caregivers and applicants for employment in our drug free environment.
