Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: In accordance with Public Health regulations and the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, the Janitor performs general cleaning duties with the use of related equipment. ACCOUNTABILITIES: · Using a combination of sweeping, vacuuming, extracting, spot washing, waxing, stripping, damp mopping and dusting the Janitor will clean the following; · All common areas of the facility including ceilings, walls, floors, carpets, light fixtures, furniture and interior windows. · Garbage and soiled linen storage and pick-up area. · Parking lot. · Grounds. · Reports equipment and furnishing repairs and maintenance needs to the Maintenance Worker. · Snow removal on sidewalks, salting of sidewalks and driveways as required. · Collects and disposes of garbage. · Re-stocks supplies in public washrooms. · Performs specialized cleaning tasks in both resident rooms and common areas of the facility. · Moves and arranges facility furniture for activities as required. · Checks and cleans equipment and accessories. · Performs other related duties as assigned. CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT · Works and communicates with Maintenance Workers, Personal Support Workers, RPN Governance Boards and Councils: · None MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY: · Reports directly to Director of Operations FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: · None WORKING CONDITIONS: · Work environment is a long term care facility · Extensive standing and walking. Moving equipment and climbing ladders. Considerable lifting, reaching, squatting, kneeling and crouching. Exposure to hazards from use of power equipment. Exposure to biochemical agents and wet floors. Subject to interruptions of duties resulting from resident needs. · Must be able to lift carry up to 20 lbs. The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, exemplifying Christian standards of conduct. EDUCATION ,EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, CERTFICATIONS, SKILLS: Education, Qualifications and Certifications: · Grade 10 education or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements · Must have 1 years’ experience · Must know how to operate Banishers machine, Scrubber machine, Carpet Extractor · Must have experience waxing and stripping floors. · Experience in long term care or similar environment. · WHMIS guidelines. Skills and Capabilities: · Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills. · Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility. · Ability to work cooperatively with all managers and staff and create a working climate that is positive and mutually supportive. · Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. · Ability to organize work. · Ability to develop and maintain rapport with elderly residents. · Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening. · Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $23.92 to $24.25 with a maximum of $24.58. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
