ESSENTIAL TASKS The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Coordinates, manages and supervises various technical and administrative duties associated with the County’s Storm water Management Program. Supervises subordinate staff as assigned; supervisory duties include instructing, planning and assigning work, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, acting on employee problems, and recommending employee discipline as appropriate. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; offers training, advice and assistance as needed. Assists in ensuring the proper administration and enforcement of all policies, procedures, plans, standards, codes and regulations pertaining to storm water management, sediment and erosion control, and/or flood plain management through the effective administration of assigned program. Coordinates assigned activities with those of other divisions, departments and/or agencies as necessary. Inspects drainage systems, drainage channels, road construction, etc., for compliance with codes and regulations; may inspect industrial / commercial sites as necessary to ensure compliance with NPDES regulations; may monitor and collect water samples from various sources to monitor the presence of indicator pollutants; interprets data from laboratory reports; may perform field surveying work as necessary. Initiates, supervises and/or participates in investigations of suspected violations. Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance from customers and the general public regarding areas of responsibility; ensures prompt response to requests for information, investigation and/or services. Submits work orders to appropriate department personnel as necessary. Compiles data for and prepares a variety of records and reports as required by the department, County and/or regulatory agencies; maintains assigned databases. Performs general administrative / clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, attending meetings, entering and retrieving computer data, preparing spreadsheets, copying and filing documents, etc. Attends meetings, training, seminars, etc., as appropriate to maintain knowledge of current legislation, trends and technology in storm water management VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION : Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training in environmental engineering, environmental science or a closely related field. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Must possess a valid state driver’s license. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : Requires over two years and up to and including four years Compensation Minimum: $25.12
