General Description: Completes Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) observations in Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) and/or Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K )classrooms in the fall and spring, as required by the Virginia Department of Education. Uses the CLASS protocol to observe, write detailed anecdotal notes, and score each CLASS observation cycle. Provides feedback to the teacher in a timely manner and works with the teacher on areas where they would like to improve. Uploads reports and records the necessary information into the VAConnects website. Job Description: Essential Job Functions: Completes and maintains CLASS Observer certification, and demonstrates proficiency through Teachstone Conducts CLASS observations in classroom settings Successfully participates in ongoing collaboration activities, as required by project leadership Completes all post-observation data entry within 10 days of each observation Strictly adheres to all CLASS observation protocols and project-specific requirements at every stage, including training, certification, observation, data entry, and record-keeping Communicates and interacts with school administrators, office staff, and teachers in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner Budgetary Responsibility: No budgetary responsibility Report Preparation: Reports and feedback must be completed accurately and on time, as requested by project leadership Equipment Operation:  Uses standard office equipment and equipment related to education and assigned area  Contacts: Contacts are made at all levels within and outside the school system and may require the handling of highly sensitive information with the general public and CCPS employees.  Work Direction/Supervision: Does not supervise others Decision Making: Decisions are made in collaboration with instructional specialists and the Coordinator of Early Childhood Services.  Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities: This position has no formal policy-setting responsibilities. Physical Demands: Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to drive, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead. Frequent travel to school sites throughout the division is required. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee travels to visit the participating schools and other facilities throughout the district. Noise levels will vary. Qualifications: Knowledge of early childhood growth and development, best practices, and CLASS observations, scoring, and feedback. Ability to listen and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated skills in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, long range planning and forecasting. Additional Job Requirements: Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education,  Early/Primary Education PK-3 or Education. Must have, or be eligible to receive, the PreK CLASS certification.
