You are Absa. You are possibility. Job Summary Lead and grow the Fixed Income function within Absa’s Global Markets business. This senior role is responsible for setting strategic direction, driving profitability, managing risk, and leading cross-functional execution across fixed income products. It involves trading, research, client solutioning, and partnership with Global Markets Sales and risk teams to deliver competitive fixed income offerings to institutional and corporate clients. It will also involve dynamic and strategic positioning of the applicable fixed incomes books with a view, while managing downside risks. Job Description Strategic Leadership & Business Growth Define and execute the fixed income strategy within Global Markets, aligning with Absa’s broader business goals. Lead the product and market strategy for interest-rate products, government and corporate bonds, and other fixed income assets. Partner with senior leadership to integrate fixed income into cross-asset sales and structuring initiatives. Trading & Portfolio Oversight Oversee fixed income trading activities including pricing, market-making, and execution across local and international markets. Will be responsible and accountable to drive PnL: develop and implement dynamic strategies that balance risk, liquidity, and return objectives. Ensure competitive bid/offer pricing and disciplined risk management in trading operations.  Risk Management & Compliance Ensure trading and portfolio activities remain within approved risk limits and comply with internal controls and regulatory frameworks. Collaborate with risk management, compliance, and audit functions on governance, market risk metrics, and stress testing. Research & Market Insight Lead or coordinate fixed income research and analytics to inform strategy and investment views. Translate macroeconomic, credit, and geopolitical insights into actionable market positions and client advice. Client Engagement & Business Development Engage directly with institutional clients (e.g., pension funds, hedge funds, insurers, banks) to understand needs and tailor fixed income solutions. Drive new business origination, deepen client relationships, and enhance Absa’s (Absa Bank (Mauritius) Limited fixed income market profile. Team Leadership & Culture Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing fixed income team with deep expertise in markets, trading, and analytics. Promote a culture of excellence, ethical conduct, innovation, and collaboration across teams. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with sales, structuring, syndicate, and other desks to coordinate cross-asset opportunities and integrated client offerings. Partner with technology and operations teams to ensure systems, platforms, and processes support business objectives effectively. Qualifications & Experience Advanced degree (e.g., Finance, Economics, or related) Preferred Education ACI/CFA professional qualifications will represent an advantage Experience Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in fixed income markets, trading, or portfolio and risk management. Strong track record of performance and strategic leadership in fixed income and capital markets. Demonstrated understanding of global macro, market drivers, credit analysis, and emerging markets dynamics. Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and presentation skills.
