Scheduled Weekly Hours: 0.01 Work Shift: All Work Shifts (United States of America) PRN position Must have completed at least 1 clinical rotation in RN school If graduating with BSN - must be at least a Junior before starting If graduating with ADN or Diploma - can start any time Will be required to work at least 24 hrs. per 6 week schedule May Work as PCA to pick up extra time (not required) PRN position Shift: Per diem (PRN) Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position The Clinical Nursing Student provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the organization's policies, procedures, and guidelines. The Clinical Nursing Student role is designed to provide clinical experience and exposure through both job shadowing of the Registered Nurse (RN) and provision of care appropriate to scope and at the delegation of the RN. Essential Job Functions Under direction of the RN, supports the nurse in the application of the nursing process. Works to develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery Seeks out educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking Provides basic patient care to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, record vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and mobility, including unit based specialty duties.  Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns to nurse Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's family, visitors and all employees Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation when applicable for patient care Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated Participates in patient data collection and documentation (i.e. vital signs, intake/output, change in patient condition) Performs basic patient hygiene and care related to activities of daily living - assisting with ambulation and patient mobility, feeding, hydration and nutrition and bowel and bladder elimination Utilizes clinical technology as applicable Escalates concerns appropriately through appropriate chain of command This document is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, or working conditions associated with the job. Education HS/GED (required) Currently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation (required) Certifications BLS (preferred) Training Must have completed First Clinical Rotation as a Nursing Student EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred) Work Experience Recent experience in acute care and/or long term care facility (preferred) Working Conditions Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse May be required to use physical restraints May be exposed to adverse weather conditions; cold, hot, dust, wind, etc. May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials May have periods of constant interruptions General office environment Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions Long-distance or air travel as needed- not to exceed 10% travel Prolonged periods of working alone Patient Population Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. Maintains and Demonstrates competency in required clinical skills/competencies. Demonstrates computer literacy and basic technological abilities or completion of basic computer class. Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions and patient information. Accurately reporting and documenting data and services provided. Good Interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with the multidisciplinary team and patients in a manner that fosters the team concept and supports the core values of the organization. Must be flexible and able to adapt to change and constant interruptions, with the ability to set and meet deadlines. Ability to manage and prioritize  multiple activities while working in a fast paced, environment. Combination of post-secondary education and experience in lieu of a degree.
