One Royal Culture Short Story We have a current opening for a Director of Electrical Commissioning. This role will be based out of our Dallas, TX office. This role requires travel to various projects sites. Role Summary Royal Electric’s Director of Electrical Commissioning is a senior leadership role responsible for building, leading, and executing Royal’s commissioning strategy across mission-critical, advanced manufacturing, commercial, and complex industrial projects. This position owns the safe, reliable, and repeatable energization and turnover of electrical systems, ensuring Royal delivers systems that are ready on day one, scalable for the future, and aligned with our clients’ operational expectations. The Director of Commissioning serves as Royal’s technical authority and client-facing leader for electrical commissioning, integrating early with preconstruction and remaining engaged through final turnover. What Success Looks Like at Royal Zero-incident energizations Predictable, repeatable commissioning outcomes Early risk identification and mitigation Trusted relationships with clients, CxAs, and trade partners Clear, professional documentation and turnover packages A strong, growing commissioning team and bench Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy Establish and lead Royal’s Mission Critical Electrical Commissioning Program. Define standards, procedures, and execution plans that scale across regions and projects. Act as Royal’s senior commissioning representative with owners, commissioning agents, and general contractors. Support the strategic growth of Royal’s Mission Critical and Advanced Manufacturing markets. Preconstruction & Early Engagement Partner with Preconstruction, Operations, and Business Development during pursuits. Review contracts, drawings, and specifications to define commissioning scope, risks, and deliverables. Develop commissioning narratives, staffing plans, schedules, and budgets. Influence design and construction sequencing to enable safe and efficient energization. Preconstruction & Early Engagement Partner with Preconstruction and Operations during pursuits and project startup. Review drawings, specifications, and contracts to identify quality risks and inspection requirements. Develop project-specific QA/QC plans, inspection checklists, and hold points. Influence means and methods to ensure constructability and quality compliance. Field Execution & Energization Oversee commissioning of complex electrical systems including: Medium and low voltage distribution Switchgear, UPS, generators, PDUs, and RPPs Grounding, protection, and control systems Integrated systems testing (IST) Lead energization planning, sequencing, and execution with a focus on safety and reliability. Coordinate commissioning activities across electrical, mechanical, and controls disciplines. Resolve technical challenges quickly while maintaining schedule and quality. Quality, Risk & Risk Management Ensure commissioning activities align with Royal’s safety-first culture and QA/QC standards. Enforce compliance with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, NETA, and client-specific requirements. Identify and mitigate commissioning-related risks that impact safety, schedule, or cost. Documentation, Turnover & Client Confidence Oversee commissioning documentation, deficiency tracking, and closeout deliverables. Ensure systems are turned over clean, complete, and ready for operation. Support owner training, O&M documentation, and final acceptance. Leave clients confident in the reliability and operability of their facilities. Leadership & Team Development Build, mentor, and lead Royal’s commissioning managers, engineers, and field specialists. Develop standardized training, inspection tools, and career pathways. Foster a culture where quality is owned by the field and enabled by QA/QC. Education & Experience Required 10+ years of electrical construction experience with significant commissioning leadership. Proven experience on mission-critical or advanced manufacturing projects. Deep understanding of electrical distribution, energization, and integrated testing. Strong client-facing communication and leadership skills. Ability to travel and support projects nationwide. Preferred Data center or high-availability facility experience. Familiarity with NETA, IEEE, and commissioning best practices Safety & Physical Requirements Must wear proper PPE while on jobsites. Must comply with all safety standards and procedures. Sit, stand, and walk during the duration of the workday. Will lift, carry, push, pull, kneel, crouch, and reach. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Salary Range: $130,000/year - $170,000/year This is an exempt position
